Satire - Don's Diary

May 6 9.45pm

Stayed up late to watch new TVNZ comedy Mr Gormsby after warm recommendations from Tom Scott (who wrote it) and David McPhail (central character), both of whom had gone on at length about how funny it was. But must have been tuned into wrong channel and switched off at first commercial break. Good news in NBR polls, four points up and closing. Now if only I can prove Helen lied to Oskar Alley I'll be back to Orewa.

May 7 10.00am

Excited call from Gerry during morning tea break in the Galloping Gourmand section of the Savour New Zealand taste summit in Christchurch. Opened last night by Helen who said she had sent Peter to a six-week cooking course.
Although there had been some improvement, he could still only manage a one-pot curry.

May 8 1.00pm

Wrote to Peter Davies enclosing recipes for corned beef and peas and corned beef and peas on toast, as suggested alternatives to the one-pot curries complained of by his wife to hundreds of people, many from overseas.

May 9 10.00am

Reply from Peter thanking me for the recipes and expressing surprise at Helen's implied criticism of his culinery skill level. Claims he frequently serves up two-pot curries on Friday nights but she's never home. Had even gone to the trouble of making a three-pot curry last Friday, only to have Helen call and say she was dining in Christchurch with Anthony Bourdain and would be home late, probably Saturday.

May 10 11.15am

Spent morning with Richard and Murray working on a Question to prove Helen lies. Does the prime minister stand by her statement to Savour New Zealand last Friday that her husband's curries are limited to just the one pot; and if so, why? Supplementary: How does the prime minister's answer conform to the statement from her husband that he has on occasion served curries of up to three pots in complexity; and if so, why? That should do it although Richard says he can always ask Oskar if he has any more notes.
